I Was a Mormon: Stacy Ritter

My heart goes out to the people in the LDS Church. I used to be Mormon and my family goes back to Brigham Young. I am now born again and saved by the blood of Jesus. Half of my family was and still is LDS. I was baptized into the LDS Church in 1975 some time after I became a wild teenager who smoked and drank. Before this time I quit going to the LDS Church. Then one day in my late teens I said the "sinner's prayer" with a TV evangelist. I immediately felt different, suddenly aware of my sin, and I felt the love of God. I started watching Christian TV, and my father (the Mormon) said that PTL (run by Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker) was all about making money, and that I should beware. Later everything fell for me with PTL being exposed, and because I was not in a Bible believing church.

I ended up with the LDS missionaries giving me the lessons again. I ended up back in the LDS Church married to a man who was a committed member. I didn't know the difference between the LDS Church and a Baptist church. I just thought one was more formal. Then I began to study, and I would read my Bible for several hours a day. I was going to the LDS Church every Sunday, and one by one things would bother me. At first I would say to myself, "By their fruit you will know them." Then I prayed, "Jesus, show me the way." I committed my life to serving Jesus Christ, and the Lord showed me by His infallible word (the Bible) that the LDS Church is wrong and leading people down the wrong path.

My father died in Mormonism, and I wanted it to be true, but I'm 100% sure that it is not. If you ask Christ into your heart, understanding that He is the only begotten Son of God (God in human flesh), that there is only one God (not just that we have only one God!), and before Him there is no God formed and none after Him, and none beside Him (Isaiah 43:10), read the Bible instead of the LDS scriptures, then you will discover the REAL GOD. It is an encounter that you will never forget. The Bible will reveal the truth to you in a way that you did not understand before, and you will be convinced that every word is true. Look for God first and church will follow. One should not pray about finding a true church until they find the true God.
